Mic up

mike UP

Definition

A request to switch from text chat to voice chat. Roblox introduced spatial voice chat (where you can hear players near you in the game world) for verified players aged 13 and over. Enabling voice chat requires ID verification through a third-party service. 'Mic up' is heard most often in competitive games, roleplay games, and social hangout spaces where real-time voice communication gives an advantage or enhances the social experience.

Example Usage

Mic up so we can coordinate better!

Note for Parents

Voice chat is the area of Roblox that warrants the most parental attention. While ID verification is required to enable it, that verification can be circumvented. Voice conversations are largely unmoderated in real time — Roblox does record voice audio and reviews reports, but there's no live filter. If your child uses Roblox voice chat, occasional check-ins about who they've been talking to are worthwhile. You can disable voice chat entirely for your child's account under Settings → Privacy → Voice Chat.
