Trying to maximise your physical attractiveness. The mild end ('softmaxxing') is ordinary stuff — skincare, haircuts, gym, posture. The concerning end ('hardmaxxing') escalates into extreme dieting, supplements, cosmetic procedures, and even 'bonesmashing' (deliberately striking your own face, which doctors warn can cause real injury). It originated in manosphere/'incel' forums and can act as an entry point to harmful body-image and ideological content, especially for boys.

Note for Parents
This is a pattern, not proof of a problem. A teen doing skincare and going to the gym is healthy; the thing to watch for is the darker turn — obsessive comparison, self-criticism, talk of 'bone structure' being destiny, or following accounts that blend self-improvement with bitterness toward others. Approach with curiosity, not ridicule — shaming tends to push kids deeper in.
